New York’s comedy scene never sits still. A brand-new club just opened its doors in Greenpoint, an Emmy-winning comedian is doing two sets at one of Midtown’s most storied theaters, and a beloved New Zealand actor is bringing his stand-up act to a wine bar on the West Side. Whether you want a polished headliner show or a rowdy open mic where anything can happen, here’s where to laugh this weekend and beyond.
🎤 Don’t Miss: Robby Hoffman at The Town Hall
Friday, April 17 | The Town Hall, 123 West 43rd St, Midtown | 7:00 PM & 9:30 PM | Tickets from $75 via AXS
This is the comedy ticket of the weekend. Robby Hoffman — Emmy-winning writer, Jewish lesbian icon, and owner of a Netflix special (“WAKE UP,” directed by John Mulaney) — takes over The Town Hall for two sets in one night. Hoffman has a gift for being fearlessly smart and genuinely hilarious without ever punching down. The Town Hall is a gorgeous 1,500-seat theater that rarely hosts stand-up, which makes this feel like an event rather than just another show. The early show starts at 7:00 PM; the late show at 9:30 PM. Do not sleep on this one.
🇳🇿 Rhys Darby at City Winery
Friday–Saturday, April 17–18 | City Winery, 25 11th Ave (at 15th St), Chelsea | 7:30 PM | Tickets from $78 via City Winery
You know Rhys Darby from “Our Flag Means Death,” “Flight of the Conchords,” and roughly a dozen scenes in movies where he steals every frame he’s in. His solo stand-up act — “The Legend Returns” — is physical, absurd, and ridiculously charming. City Winery is the ideal room for it: intimate, great sightlines, actual wine. Two nights means two chances to catch him. Around 50 tickets remain for Friday, so move quickly.
🏆 The Gotham All-Stars at Gotham Comedy Club
Monday, April 20 | Gotham Comedy Club, 208 W 23rd St, Chelsea | 7:30 PM | Tickets via AXS
Gotham Comedy Club is one of the city’s most respected rooms — the kind of place where headliners drop in and unknowns occasionally blow the roof off. The Gotham All-Stars showcase is their signature lineup show, rotating a roster of the club’s best comics for a fast-paced evening. You won’t always know who’s on the bill until you sit down, and that’s part of the fun. The 23rd Street venue is comfortable, the drinks are solid, and the comedy is consistently sharp.
🆕 Greenpoint Comedy Club — Brooklyn’s Newest Room
Nightly shows | Greenpoint Comedy Club, 66 Greenpoint Ave, Greenpoint, Brooklyn | greenpointcomedyclub.com
If you missed our opening-week coverage, here’s the update: Greenpoint Comedy Club is real, it’s open, and it’s already buzzing. Founded by NYC comedy veteran Jeremy Pinsly and his wife Kayla, the 2,000-square-foot venue at 66 Greenpoint Avenue features a bar room with craft cocktails (curated by mixologist Dory Greenberg) open afternoons through 2 AM, plus a dedicated performance space running nightly shows. The programming goes beyond stand-up too — expect live music, writing workshops, and a vibe that encourages performers and audience to actually hang out together. Brooklyn finally has a proper comedy club in Greenpoint, and it’s worth the trip.
🎙️ Open Mics and Underground Picks
- Laughing Buddha Open Mic at St. Marks Comedy Club (Thursdays & Fridays, East Village) — Open to all levels with professionally trained hosts. A great room to see raw talent before they blow up.
- Cuckoos Open Mic at SoHo Playhouse (Every Wednesday, SoHo) — A variety mic where comedians, singers, magicians, and poets each get seven minutes. Weird in the best way.
- New York Comedy Club showcases (Nightly, East Village & Gramercy) — Produced by Mark Normand, Gary Vider, and Matt Ruby. Multiple locations, consistently strong lineups of up-and-comers and touring pros. Check their calendar for this week’s specific bills.
- Eastville Comedy Club (Nightly, Brooklyn) — Saturday Night Live Comedy and Saturday Prime Time shows feature some of NYC’s funniest working comics in an intimate Brooklyn setting.
New York’s comedy scene is deeper than the headliners. The open mics, the new clubs, the surprise drop-ins at tiny rooms — that’s where the magic happens. Get out there this weekend.
