Heads up if you’re moving around the city this weekend — the MTA has four significant track and station projects running from Friday night through Monday morning. Here’s what’s affected and how to get around it.
What Lines Are Affected This Weekend
Q Line — No Service Brighton Beach to Coney Island
From 3:45 a.m. Saturday until 10 p.m. Sunday, Q trains aren’t running between Brighton Beach and Coney Island-Stillwell Av. Track replacement is the cause. The MTA is operating free B109 shuttle buses between the two terminals, making all stops in between. Add about 15-20 minutes to any trip headed to Coney Island for the boardwalk, the New York Aquarium, or Nathan’s.
3 and 4 Lines — Local Service Cut in Crown Heights
From 3:30 a.m. Saturday until 10 p.m. Sunday, 3 and 4 local trains aren’t running between Crown Heights-Utica Av and New Lots Av because of track replacement. Free B99 shuttle buses are filling in, making all stops. If you’re going to Saratoga Av, Rockaway Av, Junius St, Pennsylvania Av, Van Siclen Av, or New Lots Av, plan for the bus.
1 Line — No Service to Van Cortlandt Park-242 St
From 11:45 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday, 1 trains aren’t running to or from Van Cortlandt Park-242 St due to station work. Free shuttle buses are operating between 238 St and 242 St. The Bronx end of the 1 is otherwise running normally.
Rockaway Park Shuttle — Replaced by Buses All Weekend
From 11:45 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday, the Rockaway Park Shuttle (S) isn’t running because of track maintenance. Free shuttle buses connect Beach 90 St and Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St with a stop at Beach 67 St. If you’re going to the beach, build in extra time.
Borough-by-Borough Quick Read
Brooklyn: Q to Coney Island and 3/4 local in East New York both rely on shuttle buses. The express 4 still runs through Crown Heights-Utica without interruption.
Bronx: 1 train ends at 238 St until Monday morning. Take the shuttle bus to 242 St.
Queens: Rockaway Park Shuttle riders need the bus. The A line into the Rockaways is running.
Manhattan: No major planned closures inside Manhattan this weekend, but always check the MTA Weekender map before you head out.
What’s Running Normally
Most of the system is operating regular weekend service: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, J, L, M, N, R, W, 2, 5, 6, 7. The G line continues its multi-month service pattern from earlier this year, but no new disruptions are layered on this weekend.
Before You Go
Service patterns can shift mid-weekend if work runs long or finishes early. Check the live status at mta.info/alerts or the MTA Weekender map before stepping into the station. For real-time train positions, the official MTA app and SubwayStats both pull live data from the same feed.
And if you’re heading to the Rockaways or Coney Island specifically — those are the two beach destinations hit hardest this weekend. The shuttle buses will get you there, but factor in the extra time and consider whether a Citi Bike or NYC Ferry ride part of the way might actually be faster.
