If you have outdoor plans this weekend, today is the day to do them.

MTA Service Impact

No weather-based closures or indoor-only recess orders anticipated. Check schools.nyc.gov for non-weather announcements.

Alternate Side Parking

Alternate side parking rules are in effect Friday, May 8. No holiday suspension. Check NYC DOT or the NYC 311 app for your street’s specific schedule.

DSNY Garbage and Recycling

DSNY collection runs on its normal Friday schedule citywide. No weather delays. Compost and recycling pickups proceed as scheduled.

Resident Decisions for Friday

  • If you bike: Today is a good day — 60°F and sunny, but allow for west headwinds on eastbound routes. The Hudson River Greenway and Brooklyn Bridge paths will be busy.
  • If you’re running outside: Ideal conditions. Layer up in the morning (low 50s at 6 AM) and you’ll be comfortable by midday.
  • If you’re walking to work: A light jacket is enough. Wind picks up in the afternoon, especially in Midtown and along waterfront streets.
  • Weekend plans: Lock in outdoor plans for Friday or Sunday. Saturday has a 90% chance of rain and thunderstorms — the worst day of the stretch.
  • If you garden: No frost risk in the boroughs tonight. Lows of 50–51°F are safe for tender spring plants.

Weekend Outlook

Saturday brings the region’s most significant rain event this week. The National Weather Service forecasts showers likely before 2 PM transitioning to showers and thunderstorms by afternoon, with a 90% chance of precipitation. Rainfall totals of 0.10 to 0.25 inches in Manhattan, up to 0.25 to 0.50 inches in Staten Island. Plan accordingly if you have outdoor events Saturday.

Sunday recovers to mostly sunny skies with a high near 69°F in Manhattan and 77°F in Staten Island.
