About St. George Theatre
St. George Theatre is one of Staten Island’s genuine treasures. Built in 1929 and restored in the 2000s, the venue seats roughly 1,900 and has the kind of ornate interior — decorated ceilings, grand proscenium arch, detailed plasterwork — that you simply do not find in most modern concert venues. For anyone who has not been, the building alone is worth experiencing.
The theatre is located at 35 Hyatt Street in the St. George neighborhood, right near the Staten Island Ferry terminal. Getting here from Manhattan is straightforward: take the Staten Island Ferry from Whitehall Street terminal in Lower Manhattan (free, runs frequently), and the theatre is about a 5-minute walk from the St. George Ferry Terminal. It is one of the easier Staten Island venues to reach without a car.
Getting to St. George
The Staten Island Ferry runs 24 hours and is completely free. From the St. George Ferry Terminal, head up Hyatt Street — St. George Theatre is right there. If you are driving, street parking is available in the St. George neighborhood on Saturday evenings, and there are also paid lots within walking distance.
Plan to arrive by the 7 PM door time if you want to settle in before the 8 PM show start. The St. George neighborhood has several bars and restaurants within easy walking distance of the theatre if you want to grab dinner first — Beso on Bay Street has been a longstanding neighborhood spot, and there are several newer additions as the St. George waterfront area continues to develop.
