Brooklyn Weekend Preview: May 2-3, 2026 — BBG, Jerrod Carmichael & Art Fairs

Brooklyn has one of its strongest spring weekends on the books for May 2 and 3, 2026. From world-class garden experiences at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden to a surprise stand-up set from one of comedy’s biggest names, to a groundbreaking new art fair celebrating global majority artists, there is truly something for every kind of Brooklyn weekend. Here is what to put on your radar before you head out the door.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden: Weekends in Bloom

The Brooklyn Botanic Garden (990 Washington Avenue, Crown Heights) is in full spring mode, and this weekend is one of the best times all year to visit. The Weekends in Bloom series continues on Sunday, May 3, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring educational garden tours, cultural musical performances and dance representing traditions from Brazil, India, Japan, and more, plus interactive programming designed for kids and families.

On Saturday, May 2, the Garden is hosting two special ticketed programs worth knowing about: The Art of Ikebana: A Meditative Floral Experience (10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.) is a hands-on workshop in the Japanese art of flower arrangement, and Three Sisters Planting with Angela Ferguson (10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) teaches the Indigenous practice of growing corn, beans, and squash together. Both programs are ticketed separately from general admission — check bbg.org for availability. General garden admission applies for the Weekends in Bloom Sunday programming.

CONDUCTOR Art Fair: Global Majority Debut

One of the most talked-about cultural events hitting Brooklyn this weekend is CONDUCTOR, a new art fair described as the Art Fair of the Global Majority. The fair runs through Sunday, May 3, after opening with a VIP preview on April 29. CONDUCTOR brings together artists and collectors from communities historically underrepresented in traditional art fair spaces, offering an alternative to the blue-chip gallery circuit that dominates most of the art world’s big events.

The fair’s Brooklyn setting is fitting — the borough has long been a hub for artists working outside mainstream commercial structures. Check the CONDUCTOR website for venue address, hours, and ticketing information as the event wraps its final days this weekend.

Jerrod Carmichael at The Bell House

If you can still get a ticket, Saturday night’s stand-up show at The Bell House (149 7th Street, Gowanus) is a must. Jerrod Carmichael, the Emmy-winning comedian and filmmaker known for his HBO specials and the Rothaniel tour, performs at 9:45 p.m. The Bell House is an intimate 500-person room, meaning this is the kind of show that sells out fast and feels genuinely special when you’re in the room. Check Eventbrite or The Bell House’s website for any remaining tickets.

Community Gardening: Edible Schoolyard NYC at PS 216

For a more low-key Saturday morning, Edible Schoolyard NYC is opening its largest garden at PS 216 in Gravesend for a community visit on May 1. This remarkable space — a former concrete lot transformed into a vibrant growing site — features a full orchard, herb garden, and vegetable beds tended by students throughout the school year. It is a genuine hidden gem in southern Brooklyn and a wonderful example of what’s possible when communities reclaim unused urban space. Bring the kids.

Saturday Night: Music at Elsewhere

The multi-room venue Elsewhere (599 Johnson Avenue, Bushwick) is running its usual packed Saturday night programming on May 2. The venue is one of the best in the city for discovering emerging artists in an intimate setting — check their website for the full Saturday lineup. Doors are typically at 10 p.m. for late-night shows, with earlier sets on the main stage starting around 8 p.m.
