Madison Square Garden Logistics Guide: Transit, Parking, Food and What to Know Before You Go

Madison Square Garden sits at the center of Midtown Manhattan, directly above Penn Station, making it one of the most transit-accessible arenas in the country. Whether you are heading to a Knicks game, a Rangers playoff run, or a concert, everything you need to get in, get around, and get home is right here.

Venue Address and Entrances

Madison Square Garden is located at 4 Penn Plaza, New York, NY 10001, on the block bounded by 7th and 8th Avenues between 31st and 33rd Streets.

The main entrances are on 8th Avenue (Chase Entrances). Check your ticket for the recommended entrance based on your seat location. CLEAR members can skip the line at Entrances B and C on 8th Avenue. Additional entrances are available at Chase Square on 7th Avenue.

Best Way to Get There: Transit

MSG is built directly above Penn Station, making the subway the single fastest option from almost anywhere in the five boroughs.

Subway

  • A, C, E trains to 34th St-Penn Station (8th Avenue entrance, directly under MSG). Exit toward 8th Avenue.
  • 1, 2, 3 trains to 34th St-Penn Station (7th Avenue entrance). Walk one block west on 33rd or 34th Street.
  • B, D, F, M, N, Q, R, W trains to 34th St-Herald Sq (6th Avenue). Walk one block west to 7th Ave, then to the arena (about 4 minutes).

The NYC subway operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. No matter how late your event runs, there is always a train home. Late-night service runs less frequently after midnight.

NJ Transit and PATH

NJ Transit trains serve Penn Station from across New Jersey. Check njtransit.com for your line’s last outbound train. NJ Transit does not run 24 hours and trains fill up fast after events. PATH runs all night between 33rd Street (one block east) and Newark, Hoboken, and Journal Square.

Long Island Rail Road

LIRR serves Penn Station directly. Check mta.info for your branch’s last outbound train before you go. Some branches have earlier final departures on weeknights.

Parking

MSG has no on-site parking. The closest garage is the New Garden Garage at 315-319 W. 33rd Street, directly across from the arena with 1,500 self-park spaces and under a 2-minute walk. Event-night prices increase significantly for sold-out shows.

SpotHero is the Official Parking App of Madison Square Garden. Prepaid rates at nearby garages are typically lower than walk-up rates. Book before you leave home.

Accessibility Entrance

Accessible entrances are located at 8 Penn Plaza on 33rd Street and 8th Avenue and at Chase Square on 7th Avenue between 31st and 33rd Streets. MSG provides wheelchair and companion seating, accessible restrooms on all levels, assisted listening devices, wheelchair escorts, and mobility device storage. Staff return your device to your seat after the event.

Contact MSG Accessibility Services: 888-609-7599, Monday through Friday 9 AM to 8 PM, Saturday and Sunday 10 AM to 8 PM. Full details at msg.com/madison-square-garden/accessibility-services.

Bag Policy

Bags must fit comfortably under your seat. Oversized bags larger than 22 x 14 x 9 inches are prohibited. Smaller bags and clutches move through security faster. Check msg.com/madison-square-garden/faqs for the full prohibited items list and any event-specific rules before you arrive.

Re-Entry

Re-entry policy varies by event. Check the Know Before You Go section on your specific event page at msg.com before arriving at the arena.

Restrooms

Restrooms are available on every level inside MSG. Accessible restrooms are located throughout the venue. Lines build at halftime and set breaks, so plan ahead. Penn Station concourse restrooms are also available before events.

5 Places to Eat Before or After

The neighborhood around MSG has solid dining options within a short walk:

  • The Breslin Bar and Dining Room (Nomad Hotel, 29th Street and Broadway) – Classic gastropub with lamb burgers and a full bar. About 10 minutes south on foot.
  • Keens Steakhouse (72 W. 36th St) – Three blocks from MSG. A New York institution since 1885, known for the mutton chop and aged steaks. Reservations recommended for game nights.
  • Kang Ho Dong Baekjeong (W. 32nd St, Koreatown) – One block south. Lively Korean BBQ with tableside grills. No reservations needed; fast-paced and ideal for a pre-game meal.
  • Larb Ubol (Hell’s Kitchen, about 6 blocks north) – Low-key Thai with northeastern Thai specialties. Quieter than most nearby spots on busy event nights.
  • Nick + Stef’s Steakhouse (Penn Plaza, next to MSG) – Most convenient if you want to stay close. Bar fills up about 90 minutes before Knicks and Rangers games.

Hours vary by day and season. Check current hours before heading out.
