Best NYC Outdoor Bars and Beer Gardens 2026: Spring and Summer Edition
When NYC spring arrives, the city’s outdoor bars and beer gardens explode back to life. Here’s where to drink outside across all five boroughs.

Biergartens and Classic Outdoor Drinking Spots

The Standard Biergarten at The Standard Hotel in the Meatpacking District is the classic NYC outdoor drinking spot: a large, open-air space with communal tables, German-style beers, pretzels, and a lively crowd from the moment the weather turns warm. Dress code casual, no reservations needed for the outdoor area.

Radegast Hall & Biergarten in Williamsburg is the most authentic German biergarten experience in the five boroughs, with a covered outdoor garden, excellent German beers on tap, sausages and pretzels, and live music on weekends. A Brooklyn institution since 2007.

Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden in Astoria, Queens, is the oldest beer garden in New York City, dating to 1910. The large outdoor garden — genuine central European-style — is an extraordinary and often overlooked experience for the city. Get there in the early evening before the younger Astoria crowd arrives for a more relaxed experience.

Waterfront Outdoor Bars

Brooklyn Bridge Park’s outdoor event space at Pier 5 hosts various outdoor bar pop-ups and events in summer. The waterfront setting with Manhattan views across the river is unbeatable.

North River Lobster Company — a floating barge at Pier 81 on the Hudson River — is technically a floating seafood restaurant with open decks, but it functions as one of the best outdoor drinking spots with Hudson River views. Open seasonally.

The Frying Pan, a permanently docked lighthouse ship at Pier 66 on the Hudson River, is a beloved summer institution with outdoor bars spread across multiple decks. Casual, fun, and reliably packed on warm evenings and weekends.

Rooftop Bars with Views

230 Fifth in the Flatiron District has one of the most dramatic rooftop views in Midtown — the Empire State Building looms directly overhead, making it one of the best spots in the city for photos. Large capacity, often crowded, but genuinely spectacular at sunset.

The Press Lounge at the Ink48 Hotel in Hell’s Kitchen is quieter, more intimate, and has sweeping Hudson River views to the west. Often overlooked compared to the more famous Midtown rooftops.

Westlight at the William Vale Hotel in Williamsburg looks back at the Manhattan skyline — best at sunset when the city glows behind the East River. Indoor/outdoor setup makes it comfortable in variable spring weather.

The Skylark on 39th Street in Midtown is a hidden gem rooftop bar with excellent cocktails and views of the Empire State Building. Less touristy than 230 Fifth despite similar proximity.

Neighborhood Beer Gardens and Patios

Beyond the major venues, most NYC neighborhoods have beloved local outdoor spots that open up in spring. In the East Village, the garden at Zum Schneider is a great Bavarian escape. In Park Slope, the Fourth Avenue Pub garden is a neighborhood favorite. In Astoria, dozens of restaurants along Steinway Street and 31st Avenue extend their seating outdoors.

Outdoor dining in general is a NYC spring event — walk any neighborhood in good weather and you’ll find restaurants that have expanded their seating onto sidewalks, parking spots converted to outdoor dining, and patios that were shuttered all winter suddenly bustling with activity.
