Welcome to the May 17 edition of the helpnewyork.com Food & Drink Desk’s daily openings and closings roundup. Manhattan
Toro 7 Sushi — Upper West Side
Address: 103 West 70th Street (just west of Columbus Avenue)
Cuisine: Japanese — sushi, teriyaki, ramen, gyoza
Toro 7 Sushi opened on May 7 and shares ownership with Raku, the Japanese restaurant at 57 West 76th Street. According to the manager, the menu is similar to Raku’s but more focused. Open seven days a week from 12:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with delivery via the usual third-party apps. The space previously housed Amber, which merged with Flame at 100 West 82nd Street in July 2025.
Crepes & Breakfast — Upper West Side / Manhattan Valley
Address: 366 West 110th Street (between Columbus and Manhattan avenues), inside Miss Mamie’s Spoonbread Too
Cuisine: Breakfast, sandwiches, salads, soups
This is the second chapter for the team behind Crepes on Columbus, which closed its 990 Columbus Avenue location in February. Hours are 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekends — a tidy weekend brunch window if you’re up that way.
Ghemo — Upper West Side (Opens May 20)
Address: 201 West 106th Street (between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue)
Cuisine: Georgian — khachapuri, khinkali, natural wine
Owner Guram Kharshiladze is bringing a full Georgian wine program to the UWS with a focus on the country’s claim as the cradle of winemaking. The bakery and café side opens at 7 a.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. on weekends; the full restaurant runs 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, longer on weekends. Worth a look once doors swing open on May 20.
Ray’s Pizza — Upper West Side (Reopening May 18)
Address: 462 Columbus Avenue (at West 82nd Street)
Ray’s on Columbus is back this Monday after a multi-week shutdown caused by a gas leak. Confirmed by an employee at the Midtown West location — slices imminent.
Brooklyn
Drums & Flats — Park Slope
Cuisine: Wings, backyard patio
Opened May 2 in the old Alchemy space from the Brooklyn team behind Moot Bar in Clinton Hill and Uncle Barry’s Bar. Wing-focused, with a patio for warm-weather sessions.
Little Falcon — Fort Greene
Opened Friday, May 1, replacing Third Falcon (which itself opened in fall 2024). A quick turnover for the space — same neighborhood, new identity.
Queens
Mriga — Sunnyside
Cuisine: Wine bar with tapas and sourdough bread
Opened Friday, May 1, from the team behind Dawa’s a few blocks away. Sunnyside’s wine-bar bench gets deeper.
Closings & Health Department
No notable permanent closings to report from the past 48 hours that we’ve been able to confirm via primary sources. The city’s Department of Health restaurant inspection actions remain on the lighter side this week. We’ll flag any verified closures in tomorrow’s roundup.
What to Eat This Weekend
If you’re chasing the freshest of the fresh, head to Sunnyside for Mriga’s wine list, Park Slope for Drums & Flats wings on the patio, or the Upper West Side to get ahead of the Toro 7 Sushi crowd before word fully spreads. And mark Wednesday for Ghemo’s grand debut on West 106th Street.
