Spring is in full swing and New York’s restaurant scene is not slowing down. This week covers the freshest spots to hit the city — from a proper British pub near NYU to a Singaporean chicken rice counter making its New York debut.

New Openings

Dean’s at 213 6th Ave in Hudson Square is the British pub New York actually needed. This compact spot from the team behind the acclaimed King restaurant serves fish and chips, scotch eggs, and stargazy pie alongside an extensive wine list. It is everything a pub should be. Brunch launched in early May.

Singapore Social at 15 Avenue A in the East Village has Southeast Asia’s greatest comfort food. Hainanese chicken rice, nasi lemak, laksa, and satay make up a menu shaped by Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Hours: Monday through Friday 5 to 10 p.m., weekends noon to 10 p.m.

Lucky Cafe at 64 Avenue A serves coffee, matcha, and baked goods from Brooklyn’s Colson Patisserie. Owners James Phillips and Max Vitkus are both East Village locals and the place feels like it. Open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

Kidilum at 31 W 21st Street in Flatiron is a South Indian restaurant rooted in Kerala, with a podi idly amuse-bouche setting the tone for an ingredient-led menu of Malabar Coast flavors from chef Vinu Raveendran. Open Tuesday through Sunday, 5 to 9:30 p.m.

Mam at 70 Forsyth Street on the Lower East Side grew from a beloved pop-up into a permanent spot shifting how New Yorkers think about Vietnamese street food. The Dac Biet platter — crispy tofu, sticky rice sausage, pork belly, blood sausage, fresh herbs, and fermented shrimp paste — is the move. Open Thursday through Friday evenings plus Saturday and Sunday from noon.

A Recent Closing Worth Noting

Barbetta, one of New York’s most storied Italian restaurants, permanently closed in late February 2026 after nearly 120 years. The Theater District institution at 321 W 46th Street was opened in 1906 and was famous for Piedmontese cuisine and garden dining. Owner Laura Maioglio passed away in January 2026 at 93 and had wished for the restaurant to close after her. Some rooms cannot be recreated.
