Monday morning commuters, heads up. Several weekend MTA maintenance windows run through 5 a.m. Monday, which means your April 6 rush-hour ride could look different than usual. Here’s your line-by-line breakdown so you can plan before you leave the house.
What Lines Are Affected
A Train — Queens Branch Gap
The A train is not running between Rockaway Blvd and Ozone Park–Lefferts Blvd through the end of the weekend maintenance window. If you need the Lefferts branch, take a free MTA shuttle bus between 80 St and Ozone Park–Lefferts Blvd, which is making all stops. Most Monday commuters heading into Manhattan should be unaffected if they board at Rockaway Blvd or further into the city.
A and C Trains — Lower Manhattan Reroute
A and C trains are running on a shared track between W 4 St–Wash Sq and Jay St–MetroTech. Expect longer intervals at stations in this stretch. If you’re headed to Fulton St or Broadway–Nassau, build in an extra 5–10 minutes.
N Train — Queensboro Plaza Split
The N train is running in two separate sections: Astoria–Ditmars Blvd to Queensboro Plaza, and Coney Island–Stillwell Av to Times Sq–42 St. There is no through-service between Queens and Midtown on the N. This maintenance window ends at 5 a.m. Monday, so Monday morning rush service should be restored — but allow time if you’re an early riser catching a 5–5:30 a.m. train.
2 Train — Bronx Section Gap
The 2 train is not running between E 180 St and 149 St–Grand Concourse through the weekend. Service runs in two sections: Eastchester–Dyre Av to E 180 St, and 149 St–Grand Concourse to Bowling Green. Free shuttle buses are running both local (all stops) and nonstop between E 180 St and 149 St–Grand Concourse.
Metro-North alternative: Metro-North is accommodating subway riders at no additional cost on the Harlem and New Haven lines between Wakefield and Grand Central for travel between the Bronx and Manhattan. This is a genuine money-saver — tap your OMNY card at the Metro-North station and ride free.
F Train — Roosevelt Island Reroute
The F train is running via Roosevelt Island between 36 St and 57 St–7 Av in both directions. This adds a stop and slightly lengthens travel time for F riders through this stretch of Queens and Midtown.
4 and 5 Trains — Hunts Point Skip-Stop
Manhattan-bound 4 and 5 trains are running nonstop from Hunts Point Av to 3 Av–138 St due to structural maintenance. Riders needing Hunts Point Av should board a Bronx-bound train from 3 Av–138 St after arriving.
What Ends at 5 a.m. Monday
The N train split, A/C shared track, and F reroute are all scheduled to conclude by 5 a.m. Monday, April 6. Full-service patterns should resume for the bulk of the morning rush. However, any signal or equipment issue overnight can extend these windows — always check the MTA app or mta.info before you leave.
Lines Running Normal Service
The following lines have no reported planned disruptions for Monday morning: 1, 3, 6, 7, B, D, E, G, J, L, M, Q, R, S, Z. If your commute uses one of these, you’re in the clear barring any unplanned delays.
Free Alternatives
- Metro-North (Bronx riders): Free for subway card holders between Wakefield and Grand Central on the Harlem and New Haven lines during the 2 train gap
- MTA Shuttle Buses: Free service on the A train Lefferts branch gap (80 St to Ozone Park–Lefferts Blvd) and on the 2 train gap (E 180 St to 149 St–Grand Concourse)
If you ride the 2 train from the Bronx, skip the shuttle and take Metro-North instead — it’s free with your subway card, it’s faster, and Grand Central drops you closer to most Midtown offices than 149 St–Grand Concourse would anyway. Download the TrainTime app to see the next departure from your nearest Metro-North station.
