NYC Subway Alert: Weekend of April 11–12, 2026 — Weekend Work Hits Multiple Lines

Heading out this weekend? Before you swipe your OMNY card, check the boards: the MTA has weekend maintenance work affecting several lines across the city this Saturday and Sunday, April 11–12. Here’s your line-by-line breakdown so you can plan ahead.

What Lines Are Affected

🔵 2 and 5 Trains — Bronx Disruption

Ongoing weekend track replacement work continues to disrupt 2 and 5 train service in the Bronx. Trains are running in two separate sections, with service suspended between E 180 St and 149 St–Grand Concourse. Free shuttle buses are operating between these stations, with both local (all-stops) and limited-stop (nonstop) options. Expect service to run every 12 minutes in the Bronx section and approximately every 20 minutes on the Manhattan segment.

Tip: Metro-North is honoring NYC Transit fares at no extra cost for Bronx-to-Manhattan trips at stations on the Harlem and New Haven lines between Wakefield and Grand Central.

🟠 N, Q, R, and W Trains — Queens Gap

Queens riders should be aware that weekend track work has continued to affect service between Queensboro Plaza and Times Sq–42 St. Trains run in two sections. The F train is running via Roosevelt Island between 36 St and 57 St–7 Av in both directions. If you’re heading between Queens and Midtown, budget extra time and consider the 7 train as an alternative from Queensboro Plaza to Grand Central or Times Square.

🟢 G Train — Ongoing Signal Modernization

The MTA’s multi-year CBTC (Communications-Based Train Control) signal modernization project on the G/Crosstown Line continues to trigger selected weekend shutdowns throughout 2026. Check mta.info before traveling: on affected weekends, G trains may not run between Bedford–Nostrand Avs and Church Av or between Court Sq and Bedford–Nostrand Avs. Free shuttle buses replace service on suspended segments. This project runs through Q3 2027.

🔵 A Train — Lefferts Branch Gap

The A train is not running between Rockaway Blvd and Ozone Park–Lefferts Blvd during weekend work windows. Riders needing the Lefferts Blvd branch should take A/C trains to Rockaway Blvd and board shuttle buses for the remaining stops.

Lines Running Normally This Weekend

As of the latest MTA updates, the 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, B, C, D, E, J, L, M, Z trains are running on or close to their regular weekend schedules. Always confirm at mta.info or on the MTA app before heading out — conditions can change.

Alternatives to Consider

  • 7 train: A solid Queens–Midtown workaround when N/R/W service is split
  • Metro-North: Free for NYC Transit riders in the Bronx this weekend; use it
  • NYC Ferry: Spring 2026 service is now in full swing — East River routes A and B now run as separate weekend services, increasing frequency to Lower Manhattan, DUMBO, North Williamsburg, South Williamsburg, Greenpoint, and Hunters Point South
  • SBS buses: M15-SBS, Bx12-SBS, and B44-SBS offer faster alternatives on key corridors
🚧 Commuter Tip: Download the MTA app or check mta.info/alerts Friday night before your Saturday trip. Weekend service changes often go into effect Friday around midnight, and the full picture is confirmed by late Friday afternoon. If you see shuttle buses at your station, flag one down — they’re free with your MetroCard or OMNY tap.

Weekend Reminders

Weekend subway service runs on a reduced schedule regardless of planned work — trains generally come every 8–12 minutes on most lines versus every 4–6 minutes during rush hour. Build in extra buffer time, especially if you’re making connections. Station agents are available at major hubs to help with reroutes.
