G Train: The Big One This Weekend
If you ride the G between Queens and Brooklyn, plan now. Starting Friday, June 6 at 9:45 p.m. through Monday, June 9 at 5 a.m., G trains will not run between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs.
Free shuttle buses will make all G stops between those two endpoints. This is part of the MTA’s ongoing signal modernization project to replace decades-old equipment with Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) — the same technology that runs on the L train and delivers faster, more reliable service.
Your alternatives:
- From Queens into Greenpoint/Williamsburg: Take the 7 to Court Sq, then the shuttle
- From Nassau Av/Greenpoint Av/Bedford-Nostrand: Use the B43 or B48 for crosstown connections
- From Long Island City to Brooklyn: The L at Bedford Av is your best bet into Williamsburg
The G train also has weeknight changes coming June 9–12 — check mta.info/alerts for specific stop impacts as details are finalized.
June weekends with G train work: June 6–7, June 12–15, June 19–22. Mark your calendar.
Brooklyn Lines: L and R Track Work (Recurrent)
L train: On maintenance weekends, trains do not run between Broadway Junction and Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy. Free T426 shuttle buses run the full length of the affected section — both local and nonstop options available.
R train: During day/evening weekend hours, R trains do not run between 36 St and Bay Ridge-95 St. Free shuttle buses cover all R stops. During late nights, R trains don’t run at all in this section. For Bay Ridge riders, the N runs via the R line from 36 St to 9 Av on maintenance weekends.
1 Train: Upper Manhattan Weekend Work (Recurrent)
On maintenance weekends, 1 trains have been suspended between Van Cortlandt Park–242 St and 168 St–Washington Hts due to station work. Free shuttle buses run on Broadway to 215 St (connecting to the A at Inwood-207 St) and on St Nicholas Av to 168 St. Check mta.info before heading uptown.
4/5 Trains: Brooklyn Express Work (Recurrent)
Track replacement has been triggering recurrent suspension of 4/5 trains between Brooklyn Bridge–City Hall and Crown Hts–Utica Av/New Lots Av. During affected periods, the 4 runs Manhattan-only and the 5 runs to Grand Central (not Bowling Green). Direct Manhattan–Brooklyn service remains available on the A, C, and F.
F Train: Manhattan Reroute (Recurrent)
F trains have been rerouting through Roosevelt Island during signal and track maintenance windows. If you’re heading to W 4 St from Queens, budget an extra 10–15 minutes.
🚇 Commuter Tip: The MTA Weekender newsletter drops every Friday afternoon with that weekend’s full service change list. Sign up at mta.info/guides/service-alerts and you’ll know exactly what’s disrupted before you leave for brunch. The MTA app also shows real-time shuttle bus locations during outages.
For the most up-to-date service status, visit mta.info or use the MTA app. Service changes are subject to modification — always check before you travel.
