Queens Weather Today, June 3, 2026: Sunny and Warm — What Riders, Drivers, and Parents Need to Know
Queens residents are waking up to one of the better weather days of the early summer. The National Weather Service forecast issued at 3:08 AM today calls for sunny skies, seasonable warmth, and light winds — the kind of Wednesday that makes the commute easier and the school pickup run a little more enjoyable.
There are no watches, warnings, or advisories in effect for Queens today.
Queens Forecast for Wednesday, June 3, 2026
Queens splits across two NWS forecast zones — Northern and Southern — and today they’re telling slightly different stories, as they often do on sea-breeze days.
Northern Queens (Flushing, Jackson Heights, Astoria, Long Island City, Woodside): Sunny, high in the lower 80s. North winds 5 to 10 mph become northeast this afternoon as the sea breeze establishes. Tonight, mostly clear with a low in the lower 60s. South winds 5 to 10 mph overnight.
Southern Queens (Jamaica, Howard Beach, Rockaway, Ozone Park, Far Rockaway): Sunny, high in the upper 70s. The Rockaways and coastal neighborhoods get the full sea-breeze effect today, keeping it noticeably cooler than the inland neighborhoods by several degrees this afternoon. Expect a refreshing onshore flow from the east by mid-afternoon. Tonight, mostly clear with a low around 60°F.
What This Means for the Commute
Queens is a borough of trains, buses, and cars — and today all three have good news.
The E, F, M, N, W, J, Z, 7, A, and all the other subway lines serving Queens are operating normally, with no weather-related impacts. No weather delays expected on the LIRR out of Jamaica or Penn Station. For drivers, road conditions are dry and normal — no ice, no flooding, no weather complications. The Rockaway and Jamaica Bay causeways are fine today.
Cyclists on the Queens Boulevard protected lanes, the Queensboro Bridge path, or the Flushing Meadows paths will find today excellent. Light winds, dry pavement, and sunshine make it one of the better biking days of the season so far.
NYC Schools in Queens: Regular Day, Recess On
All Queens public schools are open for a regular school day. With temperatures in the upper 70s to lower 80s and clear skies, conditions are well above the threshold that triggers DOE indoor recess guidelines. Afternoon pickup in school yards and parks will be comfortable — not too hot, especially in the sea-breeze neighborhoods of Southern Queens.
Parents walking to pickup: you’re fine without an umbrella today, but sunscreen on the kids is a good idea for anyone spending more than 30 minutes outdoors this afternoon.
Alternate Side Parking: IN EFFECT
Alternate side parking rules are in effect citywide today, including all Queens neighborhoods. June 3 is not a suspension day on the 2026 NYC DOT calendar. DSNY street cleaning is running on the regular Wednesday schedule. If your block has ASP today, move your car. The next citywide suspension is Friday, June 19 for Juneteenth.
Garbage and recycling collection proceeds normally throughout Queens today.
Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Jacob Riis, and the Rockaways
It’s a park day. Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, one of the largest in the city, will be busy this afternoon — temperatures in the lower 80s inland, plenty of shade near Meadow Lake, and the fountains open. Baseball and soccer fields will be in good condition.
Jacob Riis Park and the Rockaway Beach shoreline will be on the cooler end today — upper 70s at most with that east sea breeze — which is actually ideal for a long beach walk or early-season swim. Water temperatures in the Atlantic off Far Rockaway are typically in the upper 60s to low 70s in early June; refreshing but not cold.
Resident Decisions for Queens Today
- If you bike to work: Today is the day. Jackson Heights to LIC, Astoria to Midtown via the bridge — excellent conditions all the way.
- If you’re doing outdoor market shopping: The Saturday Jamaica or Flushing markets won’t be running, but any Wednesday outdoor vendor setups will have great conditions.
- If you’re heading to the Rockaways after work: The A train runs to Far Rockaway. Temps will cool to the mid-60s by early evening at the beach — bring a light layer for the train ride back.
- If you drive for work in Queens: Clear conditions, no weather-related slowdowns. Normal Wednesday congestion on the LIE, BQE, and Grand Central Parkway during rush.
- If you’re a landlord or property manager: Good day to address any deferred exterior maintenance — painting, repairs, inspections — dry conditions all day.
- Sun exposure: UV index will be elevated by midday. Cap and sunscreen before outdoor work or kids’ activities.
The Week Ahead for Queens
Thursday looks even warmer — sunny with highs in the mid to upper 80s in Northern Queens and lower 80s in Southern Queens. Friday pushes toward the lower 90s inland. This is the warmest stretch of 2026 so far for the borough. A significant weather change arrives Sunday, when a 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms is forecast — enjoy the dry days while they last. Monday brings some lingering shower chances before things quiet down for Tuesday.
