If you are heading out this Saturday, the system has a heavy slate of weekend work running through 5 a.m. Monday. Five separate service changes are in effect right now, and they affect riders in northern Manhattan, the Bronx, central Brooklyn, the Rockaways, and along the L line. Here is the rundown.
What Lines Are Affected
1 Train — No Service Van Cortlandt Park-242 St to 168 St-Washington Hts
From 11:30 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday, 1 trains are not running between Van Cortlandt Park-242 St and 168 St-Washington Hts. Station work is the cause. Free shuttle buses are running on three routes — along Broadway, St Nicholas Avenue, and Dyckman Street — to fill the gap. If you are traveling between Inwood/Washington Heights and the Bronx, expect added travel time. Plan for at least 20 to 30 extra minutes if you are connecting to the A at 168 St.
4 Train — No Service Woodlawn to 161 St-Yankee Stadium
4 trains are suspended between Woodlawn and 161 St-Yankee Stadium for the weekend. Use the D between 161 St-Yankee Stadium and Norwood-205 St as a workaround for most Bronx 4 stops, or take Bx-bound buses for local hops.
B/D Bronx Adjustments
Expect routing adjustments on the B and D in the Bronx tied to the 4 train work. Check the MTA app before you board — these are the kind of changes that shift between Saturday and Sunday.
F Train — No Service Church Av to Coney Island-Stillwell Av
F service is cut between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av all weekend. For direct service between Manhattan or Downtown Brooklyn and Coney Island, take the N or Q. The B68 and B82 buses are the practical local alternative for stops in between.
L Train — Two-Section Operation, Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs to Broadway Junction
From 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, L trains are not running between Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs and Broadway Junction and are operating in two sections because of electrical work. Free shuttle buses are making all stops between Myrtle-Wyckoff and Broadway Junction. If you are riding between Manhattan and East New York, build in extra time for the shuttle transfer.
A Train — Rockaway Park Shuttle Suspended
The Rockaway Park Shuttle is not running from 11:45 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance. A train service to Far Rockaway-Mott Av continues, but if you need Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St, plan on a bus connection at Broad Channel.
7 Train — Sunday Morning Reroute via Roosevelt Island
From 7:45 a.m. to 12 noon Sunday, Forest Hills-bound trains are running via Roosevelt Island from 57 St-7 Av to 36 St due to signal maintenance. If you are heading to Queens Sunday morning and using the 7, this is the window to watch.
What This Means for Your Weekend
The 1 train suspension is the biggest pain point — it cuts off the entire upper Manhattan corridor from the rest of the line and forces shuttle buses on a stretch where the parallel A is already crowded. If you are coming from the Bronx into Manhattan, the 4 closure plus the 1 closure means the D becomes the workhorse line into Midtown for the weekend. Build in the time.
The F cut into Coney Island is a long-running pattern this spring, and the workaround is the same as before: take the N or Q for the most direct ride from Manhattan to the boardwalk. The L two-section operation has become routine for electrical work, and the shuttle bus operation is generally smooth — just plan for it.
Looking Ahead
Most of these closures wrap by 5 a.m. Monday, so the Monday morning commute should run on a normal weekday pattern. Always confirm against the MTA’s live alerts page before you leave, since service changes are subject to update without notice.
