Winter Wildlife in the Borough of Parks
Staten Island is an ecological gem, and January is prime time for spotting winter waterfowl. The Staten Island Museum hosts guided Winter Birding Walks at Great Kills Park, with dates confirmed for January 14 and 28, 2026.
As detailed in our January Pillar, these walks are led by expert naturalists who know exactly where the seals and rare birds hide.
The Adventure
Great Kills Park offers expansive shoreline views. Participants can expect to see Horned Larks, various duck species, and potentially harbor seals basking on the rocks. It’s a refreshing way to disconnect from the digital world.
