April is treating NYC diners well. The past week brought a strong wave of new openings across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and beyond — from pink-lit rotisserie spots in Greenpoint to a rooftop perch 22 stories above Union Square. Here is the borough-by-borough rundown of what just opened (and what is worth noting on the closing front).
Quick Bites: This Week’s Key Openings
- Gigi’s (Greenpoint, Brooklyn) — Rotisserie chicken and European wine from the Fulgurances crew
- Yesterday’s (West Village, Manhattan) — Classic cocktails and a lively old-NYC bar vibe, opened April 10
- Dean’s (SoHo, Manhattan) — British coastal pub from the team behind King’s, walk-ins only
- Guardian (Union Square, Manhattan) — 22-floor rooftop bar at the renovated W Hotel, open now
- Marcel (Upper East Side, Manhattan) — Parisian fine dining at the Breuer Building, opens April 16
- Oyatte (Midtown, Manhattan) — 30-seat tasting-menu restaurant, reservations now open
Brooklyn
Gigi’s — Greenpoint
The team behind the beloved (now closed) Fulgurances Laundromat opened Gigi’s on April 8 at a new Greenpoint location, and the energy is palpable. Co-founder Hugo Hivernat and the wine duo Thibault Dubreuil and Pierre Buffet stocked the bar with their personal cellar of European and French bottles — natural, old-world, and deeply interesting. The kitchen is anchored by rotisserie chicken served with a trio of rotating sauces. It is exactly the kind of low-key-but-excellent neighborhood spot that Brooklyn does best. Expect to wait for a table on weekends.
Manhattan — West Village
Yesterday’s — West Village
Yesterday’s opened April 10 on Bleecker Street as a deliberate homage to old New York bar culture. Classic cocktails, a soundtrack you actually want to hear, and a neighborhood crowd already claiming it as a regular. The vibe is intentionally retro without being corny — think dark wood, good lighting, bartenders who know what they are doing.
Manhattan — SoHo
Dean’s — SoHo
From the same team behind King’s and Jupiter comes Dean’s, a walk-in-only British pub in SoHo that brings an ingredient-driven lens to classic English coastal cooking. The menu leans into fresh fish, roast chicken, and proper pub food done right. English wines make an appearance alongside Guinness, and cocktails are well-executed. No reservations — just show up and hope for the best, which is often how the best meals happen anyway.
Manhattan — Union Square
Guardian at the W Hotel
The $100-million renovation of the W Union Square is complete, and it brought Guardian with it: a 22nd-floor rooftop bar with downtown skyline views that are genuinely hard to top. Small bites, cocktails, and some of the best people-watching in the city. It is a splurge, but for a warm April evening, the vantage point is hard to argue with.
Manhattan — Midtown
Oyatte — 39th Street and Lexington Avenue
Chef Hasung Lee opened reservations this month for Oyatte, a 30-seat tasting-menu restaurant on 39th Street and Lexington Avenue. The intimate format means seats are going fast. Early word from the food community is strong, and the chef-driven, small-scale setup tends to produce some of the most memorable dining in the city when the kitchen has something to say.
Coming April 16: Marcel at the Breuer Building
Mark your calendars: Marcel opens this Thursday, April 16, inside the iconic Breuer Building on the Upper East Side. The restaurant is the work of Parisian chef-partner Marie-Aude Rose (the talent behind La Mercerie) and executive chef Juan Moncalvo. Expect sophisticated French cuisine in one of the most architecturally interesting dining rooms in the city. Reservations are already filling up.
On the Closings Front
This week’s opening wave is notably stronger than the closings news — a welcome change. No major neighborhood staples announced permanent closures in the past 48 hours. The longer arc of 2026 closings continues — Frog Club shuttered earlier this year, and the landmark Gotham closed after 40 years at 12 East 12th Street — but right now, the city is firmly in opening season.
