NYC Subway Service Alerts: Tuesday, June 2, 2026 — G Train Heads Into Another Shutdown Weekend, Weeknight Work Ahead

It’s a relatively calm week on the subway — the big G train weekend work that ran May 29 through June 1 has wrapped, but another disruption window is right around the corner. Here’s what you need to know before you ride.

What Lines Are Affected

G Train — Weekend Shutdown Coming June 6–7

G riders get a short breather before the next hit: the upcoming weekend of June 6–7 brings another service suspension as part of the MTA’s ongoing signal modernization work on the line.

From approximately 9:30 p.m. Friday, June 6 through the end of service Saturday, June 7, G trains will not run between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Church Av. Free shuttle buses will cover the affected stations, and riders heading to or from Bergen St and Church Av can use the F train as an alternative.

This is part of a recurring series of G train disruptions throughout 2026 tied to the MTA’s Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) signal upgrade project — work that will eventually allow trains to run more frequently and reliably. The disruptions are the price of that long-term improvement.

Plan ahead: if you’re riding the G on Friday evening, June 6, try to complete your trip before 9:30 p.m.

G Train — Weeknight Disruptions June 9–12

The week after brings more: G trains will also face weeknight service changes from June 9–12. Specific station impacts for those dates have not yet been announced by the MTA, but based on the pattern of the 2026 work schedule, riders should check mta.info/alerts before traveling and consider the F and A/C lines as backup options through that window.

All Other Lines — Normal Service Expected

No other subway lines currently have major planned disruptions in effect for the immediate week ahead. The 4/5 line switch replacement project that affected Bronx service during January and February has been completed. Riders on the 1/2/3, A/C/E, B/D/F/M, J/Z, L, N/Q/R/W, and 7 trains should expect normal weekday operations.

Coming Up This Weekend

The next G train weekend shutdown (June 6–7) is the one to watch. The MTA’s Weekender newsletter for this weekend’s full picture will be available Friday — worth checking if you have any Brooklyn-Queens travel planned involving the G corridor.

Travel Tips for the Week

If you ride the G regularly between Brooklyn and Queens, now’s a good time to map your alternate routes before Friday rolls around. The F train is your most direct substitute for much of the line; the A/C serves the Smith-9 Sts and Jay St-MetroTech area. Free shuttle buses will operate between affected stations but will add time to your trip.

For weeknight work in the June 9–12 window, plan extra travel time of 10–15 minutes if you’re commuting on the G after 9:30 p.m.

Commuter Tip: Bookmark mta.info/alerts or sign up for the MTA Weekender email (free, sent every Friday) so you’re never caught off guard by G train shuttles. The weekend disruptions on the G will continue through at least June 22 as signal work progresses.

The MTA’s CBTC signal upgrades on the G line — while disruptive in the short term — are the same technology that transformed the L train into one of the most reliable lines in the system. Once the G conversion is complete, riders can expect shorter headways and fewer delays city-wide.

Check mta.info/alerts for the full and up-to-date list of planned work.
