Sunday, May 3, 2026. Heading back into the city tomorrow? Here’s the suburban-rail picture for Monday morning across all three commuter lines, plus the construction calendar you’ll want to be aware of for the rest of the week.
Long Island Rail Road: Normal Schedule Expected
LIRR is operating on a regular weekend schedule today, and Monday morning peak service is expected to run normally across all branches. Grand Central Madison continues to handle the bulk of east-side commuters, with peak hour trains running every 20-30 minutes on the Babylon, Huntington, and Ronkonkoma branches. Penn Station service is unchanged.
If you ride the Far Rockaway Branch, no carryover is expected from this weekend’s subway work in the Rockaways — that’s an A train shuttle issue, not an LIRR one. Your trains run as scheduled.
One reminder: Grand Central Madison’s hours are 5:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily. If you’re an early-bird or late-night commuter, double-check your timetable rather than assuming round-the-clock service.
Metro-North: Watch the Harlem Line Calendar
Monday morning Metro-North service is expected to run on a normal weekday schedule across the Hudson, Harlem, and New Haven lines. The bigger story is later this week — Harlem Line track work is scheduled to begin May 9 and continue through May 24, which will affect weekend service starting next Saturday. We’ll cover the specific schedule changes in our Tuesday Commuter Rail update.
The New Canaan Branch on the New Haven Line continues its weekend track work cycle, with the next affected weekends running May 30 through June 7. Monday weekday service into Grand Central is unaffected.
NJ Transit: Possible Weekend Delays Ongoing
NJ Transit has flagged ongoing possible delays on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast Line, and Morris and Essex Lines for weekends. Monday peak service is expected to run on a regular weekday schedule, but if you’re traveling for work tomorrow morning out of Penn Station, build in a small buffer in case of carryover from weekend track work.
NJ Transit riders connecting from PATH or the subway at Penn Station should also note that the A/C local through Brooklyn is being restored late tonight — that’s relevant if you ride the A from Brooklyn into Manhattan to catch a train west.
Cross-Hudson and Penn Station Notes
Penn Station itself is operating normally. Amtrak service continues without weekend disruption affecting Monday operations. The 7 train and the A/C/E remain the standard subway connections for Penn — both are expected to run normal weekday schedules tomorrow morning.
If you’re heading to Grand Central via subway, the 4/5/6 and 7 are all running on regular weekday schedules. The S shuttle between Times Square and Grand Central is unaffected by this weekend’s work.
