NYC Subway Service Alerts: Memorial Day Monday, May 25, 2026 — Sunday Schedule, 7 Train Out Until 10:30 a.m., J/Z Suspended Through Tuesday
Memorial Day Monday runs on a Sunday schedule. The 7 train stays out between Queens and Manhattan until 10:30 a.m., J trains run in two sections, Z is suspended, and 4/5 service is disrupted in Manhattan through Tuesday 5 a.m.

Memorial Day is here, and the New York City subway is running on a Sunday schedule all day Monday, May 25, 2026. That sounds simple — until you realize the weekend’s biggest planned outages are still in effect Monday morning. If you are heading to a barbecue, a parade, or the beach, here is exactly what is running and what is not.

What Lines Are Affected on Monday, May 25

7 Train: Out Between Queens and Manhattan Until 10:30 a.m.

The biggest single change for Monday morning: 7 trains are not running between 74 St-Broadway in Queens and 34 St-Hudson Yards from 11:30 p.m. Friday through 10:30 a.m. Monday, according to the MTA Weekender. In Queens, 7 trains shuttle every 10 minutes between Flushing-Main St and 74 St-Broadway.

Three free shuttle bus routes are bridging the gap: T320 (74 St-Broadway to Queensboro Plaza, local stops), T323 (Queensboro Plaza to Vernon Blvd-Jackson Av, local stops), and the overnight T260 in Manhattan between Times Sq-42 St and 34 St-Hudson Yards. The 42 St Shuttle is running all weekend, including overnight.

The most useful alternative: the LIRR is accepting subway riders at no additional cost at Flushing, Mets-Willets Point, Woodside, Grand Central Madison, and Penn Station. If you are heading to Midtown from Queens before 10:30 a.m., that is your fastest option.

J Train and Z Train: Suspended Through Tuesday 5 a.m.

J trains are running in two disconnected sections through 5 a.m. Tuesday, May 26: between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Broadway Junction, and between Marcy Av and Broad St. Z service is not running at all. The MTA cites elevator ADA work at Myrtle Ave plus track replacement and structure painting.

For Middle Village-Metropolitan Av to Marcy Av, take the free B107 shuttle buses making all M stops. Between Broadway Junction and Marcy Av, take the free T433 shuttle buses making all J stops. For service between Marcy Av and Delancey St-Essex St, transfer to the M.

4 Train and 5 Train: Manhattan Service Disrupted

Through 5 a.m. Tuesday, 4 trains are not running between Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall and Crown Hts-Utica Av or New Lots Av, and 5 trains are not running between Grand Central-42 St and Bowling Green. The MTA points to track switch replacement.

4 trains will run between Woodlawn and Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall, going local in Manhattan. During days and evenings, 5 trains run between Eastchester-Dyre Av and Grand Central-42 St every 12 minutes. The 3 train runs every 8 minutes during the day and evening, and serves New Lots Av all weekend. For direct Manhattan-Brooklyn service, take the 2, 3, N, Q, R, or W.

Everything Else: Sunday Schedule

All other subway lines run on a normal Sunday schedule on Memorial Day. The Staten Island Railway also runs on a Sunday schedule, per the MTA’s official Memorial Day announcement.

Summer Bonus: New Rockaway and Beach Service

Starting this weekend, the Rockaway Park Shuttle (S) is extended to Rockaway Blvd on weekends through Labor Day, giving you a transfer to any A train heading out to the beach. The Bx12-SBS now runs weekend service to Orchard Beach, and the Q35 diverts directly into Jacob Riis Park from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on weekends and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays through September 7.

Commuter Tip: If you are coming in from Queens before 10:30 a.m. Monday, skip the shuttle buses entirely and take the LIRR — Flushing, Mets-Willets Point, and Woodside are all accepting MetroCards and OMNY taps at no extra cost. You will save 20 to 30 minutes.

Service changes are subject to change. Check mta.info/alerts or the MTA app before you head out, and sign up for service alerts tailored to your line.
